🧭 Build brief

What will you have by Sunday night?

A working system. It watches 5 competitor web pages. It sends you one weekly digest. The digest lists real changes only. No noise.

How does the system work?

Input → competitor page text, checked weekly.
AI processing → compares old and new text. Finds real changes.
Automation → sends the changes to one weekly digest.
Output → one email or doc. Easy to read. Ready to send to a client.

Who should build this?
-Marketers who track competitor moves by hand today
-Agency owners who want a new service to sell
-E-commerce operators who need to catch price changes fast
-Consultants who advise clients on market position

What does it improve?

-Saves 3 to 5 hours a week of manual checking

-Catches a competitor price change the same week it happens

-Becomes a real service you can sell to clients

⭐ Weekend playbook

Step 1: Define the input. Pick 5 competitors. For each one, pick 2 to 3 pages to watch: the pricing page, the homepage, and one product or blog page. Write down the exact URLs in a sheet.

Step 2: Build the AI layer. The AI compares an old page and a new page. It finds real changes only. It ignores cookie banners, dates, and rotating testimonials. It sorts each change into a type: Pricing, Feature, Messaging, or Offer. It writes one sentence on why the change matters. Use the copy-paste prompt below for this step.

Step 3: Connect the workflow. Trigger → your watch tool finds a page change. AI → you run the change through the prompt. Filter → only real changes move forward, noise gets dropped. Action → the change gets added to this week's digest. Storage → log every change in one sheet, so you can look back later.

Step 4: Test and improve. Run the system for one real week. Ask two questions. Did it catch a real change? Did it flag noise as a change by mistake? If yes to the second question, add that noise to an ignore list. Test again next week.

Step 5: Deploy. Set a fixed day. Friday morning works well. Automate the check, the AI step, and the digest send. Now the system runs without you. You just read the output.

📋 Copy & paste prompt

You are a competitive intelligence analyst.

I will give you two versions of the same webpage: BEFORE and AFTER.

Do this:
1. List every meaningful change. Meaningful means: pricing, features, product names, offers, or core messaging. Ignore cookie banners, dates, and testimonial rotations.
2. Sort each change into one type: Pricing Change, New Feature, Messaging Change, Offer or Promotion, Other.
3. Write one sentence per change. Say why a competitor should care.
4. If there is no meaningful change, say so in one line. Do not invent a change.

Keep your answer under 5 bullet points.

BEFORE:
[PASTE OLD PAGE TEXT]

AFTER:
[PASTE NEW PAGE TEXT]

When to use it: right after your watch tool flags a page change.

Good output looks like: 1 to 3 sharp bullets, or one line saying nothing changed. Not a wall of text.

📈 Monetization blueprint

Who buys this: ecommerce brands watching 3 to 5 direct rivals. SaaS founders tracking competitor feature launches. Agencies who want a new retainer service with no new hires.

What you're selling: a weekly competitor digest. Delivered every Friday. So a client never misses a rival's price change or new feature again.

Suggested pricing: $200–$400 setup fee. $300–$800 per month after, based on how many competitors you track.

How to find your first 5 prospects: Look at your own network first. Find founders who mention a competitor often. Check LinkedIn posts where someone got surprised by a rival's move. Check local business groups on Facebook.

Common objection: "I can just check myself." Answer: a human forgets to check some weeks. This system never does.

First outreach message: "I saw [competitor] just made a change to their pricing. I built a system that catches this kind of move every week, automatically. Want me to set one up for your top 5 competitors?"

⚠️ Common mistakes

  • Watching too many competitors at once. This happens because more feels safer. Fix: start with 3 to 5. Add more later.

  • Not filtering noise. This happens because cookie banners and dates look like changes to a simple check. Fix: build an ignore list in week one.

  • Only watching the homepage. This happens because it's the easiest page to find. Fix: track the pricing page too. That's where real change happens.

  • No fixed digest format. This happens when you skip planning the output. Fix: use the same template every single week.

💬 Latestly AI Take

Most competitor research dies the same way. Someone checks once, gets busy, and never checks again. The system in this issue doesn't get busy. It doesn't forget Friday. That's the entire value. Not smarter analysis, just analysis that actually happens every single week.

Tools referenced: Visualping, Distill.io, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google Sheets, Notion, Zapier, n8n. This issue is a how-to guide, not a news report. Tool names, prices, and free-tier limits should be checked on each provider's site before you build, since these change often. Latestly AI is independent. Sponsored content clearly labelled.
